What train lines do you frequent in the city? I just want to make sure if you catch me, I'm reading something respectable and not like you know, 50 shades of grey.

I hop around the different train lines for this project.

Every story is respectable! Reading is an activity that depends as much on the reader as it does on the writer. I bet it’s possible for one person to derive something greater from 50 Shades of Grey than what another person derived from James Joyce’s Ulysses.

Even so, if I photograph someone reading 50 Shades of Grey, I won’t put them in the library right now. I try to keep my ears opened to the conversation about books, and it seems that 50 Shades of Grey is the book that no one wants to be caught reading at the moment. If a Reading-Rider were to give me permission to post them reading it, I still wouldn’t. There is the possibility that such a photo would get passed around on the net in a jeering manner and I won’t risk putting a subject in that position.
